Auditions

The Chattanooga Girls Choir consists of five different age-level choirs for girls in grades 3 through 12.

Auditions are not required for Novellina, the 3rd-grade choir:  3rd-grade Choir Information and Application

Girls in 4th through 12th grades are asked to audition for membership in the Chattanooga Girls Choir.
Auditions take approximately 15 minutes and consist of a written evaluation of music fundamentals (ability to read and understand music) followed by a brief appraisal of vocal ability.

Each girl is asked to perform a song at her audition that she knows and is comfortable singing. "My Country ‘Tis of Thee" is one song that the CGC recommends for auditions.

The primary factors in deciding a girl's readiness for the choir are:

* a pleasing voice
* mastery of pitch and rhythm
* a mastery of music fundamentals (for 6th grade and up only)
* an indication that the child wants to sing with the Girls Choir enough to make the necessary commitment of time and effort

If a girl is not accepted as a member of the choir after her first audition, she will receive suggestions for skills to work on.
It is not uncommon for a girl to improve her musical abilities over a period of a few months, reaudition, and be accepted into the choir.

Auditions for the Chattanooga Girls Choir are held in April and May each year, with mid-year auditions in December by special request.
