SCHEDULE:
  8:00 am Breakfast in the hotel.
  9:00 am Depart on a full-day guided tour of Barcelona, including Las Ramblas, La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, and the Gothic Quarter.
      A bagged lunch will be provided this day.
  6:00 pm Return to the hotel in time for dinner.

Today's excursion consisted mainly of sightseeing, including the world-renowned architectural masterpieces of the artist Antoni Gaudí. His style shocked the masses with his unconventional usage of lines and symmetry. The English word "gaudy" derives in reference to his outlandish and eccentric designs. During our drive through Barcelona we encountered Gaudi's Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia which reaches towards the heavens with thrusting towers resembling melting candle sticks, accented by clusters of fruit. Afterwards we traveled to a park [Park Guell] that Gaudí arranged specifically for the pleasure of the rich who sought a paradise to shelter them from the pollution produced by the industry on the outlying coast.

The searing temperatures today caused tourists to seek out shade wherever it was available and induced many of us to flee to the beach and buy copious amounts of ice cream. Shopping was the number one obsession shared by many of the girls and the numerous tourist vendors surrounding our hotel granted us several possible ways to spend the euros. By the end of the day many were exhausted due to the seemingly endless roads we walked along throughout the day.

We all would like to thank our relatives and friends for their support in enabling us to attend this tour.
