Day 5: Homeward bound!
The girls were instructed to be mostly packed and ready for breakfast by 9:00 this morning, but after several days of six girls living in the same space, that was easier said than done! In most cases, clothes and toiletries got jammed into suitcases after breakfast, and then the chaperones found the last few things (phone chargers, socks, hairbrushes, etc.) when they did the room check after the girls left to take their suitcases down to the bus. To the girls' credit, they were all on the bus and ready to go by 10:00, and soon after that we said good-bye to Charleston.
On the way home the girls chatted and napped and played music and watched movies. This time we were treated to Enchanted, National Treasurer, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the recent Tim Burton version). Our bus driver decided it might be better to take a different route home than the the way we came, so we ended up going through Kentucky instead of Virginia on the way to Tennessee. We pulled into the parking lot at First Baptist of Chattanooga at 6:20 p.m. and were greeted by happy family members.
Though this trip was much shorter than our usual summer tour, it was every bit as rich and rewarding an experience as we could have hoped for. Hopefully all the girls have gained a new appreciation for Appalachian culture, and they certainly seem to have gained an appreciation for each other. These girls have bonded as a group, and we all really look forward to seeing almost all of them back together again in the fall.

A new princess has been crowned--Princess Michael! (Such lovely pink tresses!)
Lili and Amanda, also fondly known as "The Space Cadet" and "The Co-pilot"!
The girls found various ways to pass the time on the way home.
